Hosting City

The 15th IMSSU World Championship will be hosted on the Bloemfontein Metallic Silhouette Shooting Range, which is situated in the middle of South Africa and the range is 20km from the centre of the city.  Bloemfontein is about 420 km away from Johannesburg Airport, the closest international airport.

It is winter in South Africa during the time of the championship, when night temperatures that can go below zero in Bloemfontein.  Day temperatures are generally balmy – 16 to 22 degrees Celsius.

Some of the attractions in Bloemfontein are visits the Anglo Boer War Museum, Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Naval Hill (with a statue of Nelson Mandela), Free State Botanical Gardens, Naval Hill Planetarium, South African Armour Museum, National Museum (cultural and historical history exibits), Windmill Casino, Zanchieta Wildlife Rescue Center and Soetdoring Nature Reserve. 

There are several shopping malls in Bloemfontein: Waterfront, Noordstad and Mimosa.  Groceries and other amenities can be bought from Pick ‘n Pay, Checkers, Spar and some other smaller franchises.  Pick and Pay Hyper and Checkers Hyper are both in Fichardtpark, which is in the Southern parts of Bloemfontein.  Smaller pharmacies are available throughout Bloemfontein, but Dischem is the largest outlet and features more than just medicine, including health foods.  Bloemfontein boasts with many restaurants, and all tastes should be catered for.

There are many hotels, guest houses and bed & breakfast accommodation available.  Please note that South Africa has an energy crisis and load curtailment is common.  In Bloemfontein the current practice is 2½ hours of electricity outage up to 2 x a day.  Please enquire from your chosen venue if they have backup power facilities.
